Given the time and resources, of course you could. But here's what Literati brings to the table:
The offerings for our children's book clubs are chosen in consultation with educators and parents. Sources include the usual suspects, such as Caldecott and Newbery Award winners, but many of these are already familiar to parents – so we do our best to dive deep, focusing time, energy, and research into selecting works that aren't just culled from the top of the bestseller list. Personal experience counts as well – our own, and recommendations from parents in multiple fields whose literary tastes we admire.
We purchase and read every book on our list of likely candidates (the dessert part of the job!). A surprising number of titles don't make the cut, which doesn't mean they aren't good books or wouldn't be appreciated – but at Literati, we focus on books hard to find that touch the heart and expand the mind.
Though your monthly selection may include the occasional overlooked classic, it's our belief that Charlotte's Web, Ferdinand the Bull, and other widely-known children's books don't need our help to come to your attention.
Our goal is to uncover hidden treasure.
